May just increase the tide for the Quiksilver Pro, but in terms of waves I doubt it will make them bigger considering there was only a 0.4 of a metre increase at Norfolk Island. The largest wave recorder from the tsunami I think was around 3-4m near Hawaii somewhere. Nothing to panic about in Australia though. About 1000 odd years ago there was a tsunami measuring 100m that wiped Hawaii out then headed for Australia in which it pick boulders the size of houses from the beach and shifted them inland about 30km. Now that would've been a tsunami to watch. This recent one is not even considered to be a geographical event. It's extremely minor. Hearts go out to the people of Chile though.

Interestingly me and my mate were out at South Narra this morning and during the time that the Tsunami was predicted to hit there was some very weird upwelling of cooler water into the surf zone.

Usually we get this upwelling with a few days of string NE'ers but with yesterday being the only afternoon offering a moderate NE breeze, there was not enough time for upwelling to occur.

Strong currents are associated with Tsunami's and although there were none of those one has to wonder where the very distinct cold pool of water came from. Could be a coincidence though...

Anyway the surf was an inconsistent 2ft and my mate caught a solid 3ft bomb when it was predicted to hit, so he's claiming he surfed it, haha
