Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 31st March)
Best Days: Wednesday morning, Thursday morning, Friday morning, Sunday morning
Recap
The weekend was poor surf-wise with onshore winds and a building swell through Saturday afternoon that peaked Sunday. Today cleaner conditions were seen across the state but the swell dropped rapidly with onshores persisting in the South West.
Perth and Gero saw fun clean waves though with light morning offshores (Gero being the standout with an easing 3-5ft of swell).
This week (Mar 29 – Apr 4)
A run of good conditions and good S/SW swell is still on track this coming period, but the size has been pulled back a notch.
Still, the outlook for the Margaret River Pro is great with plenty of swell and good winds.
This is due to the polar fronts firing up towards SA and Victoria under the influence of the Long Wave Trough from below our state forming a little too late and right on the edge of our swell window.
In saying this, a couple of good pulses are due into tomorrow and Wednesday, with conditions from Wednesday onwards due to be great with morning offshores and weakening sea breezes towards the end of the week.
Size wise, tomorrow will probably be the biggest in the South West with 6ft+ sets at exposed reefs into the afternoon.
Perth and Gero should peak through Wednesday but not above an inconsistent 2ft at the most exposed breaks at the former, and 3-4ft+ around Gero. In the South West as winds swing offshore and the swell eases, we're probably looking at 5-6ft waves during the early morning.
This weekend onwards (Apr 5 onwards)
One final pulse of S/SW swell is due over the weekend and this will be a touch stronger than Friday's pulse and more west in direction, but still mainly from the S/SW. A peak is due overnight Saturday but early Sunday should still reveal good size in the South West and up at Gero under morning offshores.
Longer term there's nothing major on the cards for all of next week, but there is some potential for some larger swell into the week starting the 14th of April. We'll review this again on Wednesday though.
