Southern Tasmania Forecast (issued Wednesday 2nd of April)
Best Days: Thursday morning, Friday, Saturday morning, Sunday morning, Monday
Recap
Tiny surf has padded out the last few days, but a slight lift in SW groundswell has been seen today to 1-2ft across Clifton. A shallow change has since moved through creating bumpy conditions.
This week (Apr 2 - 4)
There's a couple of good pulses of swell due over the coming period and this is related to the Long Wave Trough focussing across the Bight, aiming a series of strong polar fronts up towards SA and Victoria.
While not ideally in our swell window, the strength of the system and the fact that it's piggybacking on top of an initial cold front and active sea state will see a medium sized W/SW groundswell produced.
A late increase in size may be seen tomorrow from the front pushing under us, but Friday morning will show the most size, with good 3ft to occasionally 4ft sets expected across Clifton. Exposed west facing breaks will be much larger.
Winds on Friday look great, swinging light N/NW during the morning and then NE into the afternoon, opening up plenty of options. So definitely aim to go surfing Friday!
This weekend onwards (Apr 5 onwards)
Friday's swell will ease through the afternoon with small waves left into Saturday under NW tending variable winds.
A new long-range SW groundswell is due on Sunday but this will be smaller and less consistent than Friday's swell due to it being generated further away, along the polar shelf south of WA over the coming days.
Still an inconsistent 2-3ft wave is expected into Sunday afternoon with early offshores ahead of a SE change.
Next week there's nothing major on the cards with small swells due to keep beginners happy through most of the week. Longer term there's some funky possibilities on the way for next weekend, but more on this Friday.
