Eastern Tasmania Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 4th April)
Best Days: Sunday morning, Monday morning
Recap
Tiny waves continued across the coast yesterday and this morning but there's some fun waves on the way for the coming period.
This weekend onwards (Apr 5 onwards)
Over the weekend we should see building levels of E'ly swell across open beaches and more so the northern half of the East Coast as a surface trough off the Southern NSW Coast deepens and supports the formation of a Tasman Low.
This should produce fun levels of E'ly swell that should build Saturday, reach 2ft during the afternoon with slightly bigger 2ft to occasionally 3ft sets due into Sunday morning.
A slow drop is then due Monday from 2ft or so across open beaches as the low moves out of our swell window.
Keep in mind this is the size expected for the northern half of the East Coast, further south towards Eagle Hawk Neck you can expect less size.
Winds on Saturday will be poor but improving with a fresh but easing SE'ly, while Sunday looks fun with a light W/NW offshore during the morning ahead of weak afternoon sea breezes.
Monday morning is worth a look again with a light variable wind before lunch.
Looking further ahead into next week and tiny levels of E'ly swell should persist across open beaches for most of the week, but come Thursday a medium sized increase in NE windswell is due.
This will be related to a strong northerly ridge building down the western Tasman Sea, with a stormy increase in NE windswell to 3-4ft at north-east facing beaches due Thursday evening with strong N/NE winds.
The swell should ease into Friday as winds swing N/NW.
Longer term there's nothing too major on the cards, so make the most of the small E'ly swell on offer Sunday and Monday.
