Eastern Tasmania Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 9th April)
Best Days: Possibly Friday
Recap
The weekend's and Monday's fun E'ly swell muscled up a touch into yesterday morning offering good clean 2-3ft waves across open beaches. This swell backed off into the afternoon though and further overnight leaving tiny surf into this morning.
This week (Apr 9 - 11)
We've got a dynamic weekend ahead but before we get to that, we'll see some junky NE windswell building across the coast tomorrow before easing and giving way to a late increase in SE windswell Friday.
Generally winds will be poor tomorrow and Friday but a small window of cleaner conditions is possible Friday morning as the NE windswell drops ahead of the new SE swell.
This weekend onwards (Apr 12 onwards)
The weather system responsible for the swing in winds from NE to SE over the coming days is a deepening surface trough, moving east across the country before intensifying as it moves offshore Friday evening.
The models are still wildly divergent on the positioning and strength of this system but in most cases we'll see a fetch of strong to gale-force SE winds towards us before swinging more E/SE during the weekend as a Tasman Low forms and stalls between us and New Zealand.
This should kick up a medium to large sized but stormy E/SE swell over the weekend, but to what size depends on which way the models go. It's too hard to pick at this stage, but by Friday we should have a much clearer idea, so check back then for an update.
