Wednesday's pulse of swell eased back through yesterday under poor onshores in the South West, while conditions were cleaner and better further north of Bunbury.

Today a much anticipated oversized SW groundswell has filled in, peaking in the 15ft range at exposed breaks in the South West, 3-4ft in Perth, while Gero was 4-6ft this morning but should of reached 6-8ft this afternoon.

Cape Naturaliste showed amazing numbers with Significant Wave Heights hovering around 5.5m at 20 second Peak Periods.

Moderate morning offshores created excellent conditions for those willing to test themselves in the large swell.

This weekend (Apr 19 – 21)

Today's large and powerful SW groundswell should start to ease into this afternoon around Margs and Perth, with a further drop in size due during tomorrow from 8ft+ in the South West, 3ft in Perth and 6ft+ up at Gero.

Winds will unfortunately be nowhere near as good as today with a fresh and gusty S/SE'ly limiting the best waves to super protected breaks.

Sunday is looking better with a reinforcing SW groundswell expected to peak during the morning, generated by a tight polar low pushing in on the tail of the system responsible for today's large swell. This should kick the Margs region back to the 6-8ft range with 2-3ft sets in Perth and 4-5ft up at Gero.

Winds will improve and swing SE across the South West, E/SE around Perth, but Gero will remain average with a S/SE'ly. As the swell eases Monday winds will remain fresh from the S/SE, favouring protected locations.

Next Tuesday onwards (Apr 22 onwards)

A low point in surf is due on Tuesday but winds should be favourable and from the E/SE opening up plenty of options with the small-moderate swell.

Into the end of the week we should see some fun pulses of SW groundswell as a series of strong polar fronts push up from the Heard Island region towards us and the Bight through the weekend and next week.

The largest is due on Friday afternoon to 6-8ft but winds generally look less than favourable and from the S/SE. We'll confirm this on Monday though.
