Victoria Forecast (issued Friday 29th November)
Best Days: Tuesday morning, Wednesday morning
Recap
A tiny increase in swell was seen through yesterday as early N'ly winds swing W'ly during the day and freshened.
Overnight a fresh to strong S'ly change moved through and this is whipping up a poor and junky S/SW windswell across both coasts today.
This weekend (Nov 30 – Dec 1)
The surface trough responsible for today's onshore change and windswell is moving off to the east, but a polar front pushing just up on the periphery of our swell window today should keep small to medium sized levels of S/SW swell hitting exposed coasts tomorrow morning.
Winds will remain onshore from the S/SE tending SE tomorrow, leaving protected beaches east of Melbourne with the best waves. Come Sunday a much more favourable N/NE'ly is expected but the S/SW swell will be dropping and small to tiny.
Next week (Dec 2 onwards)
Tuesday's swell will be generated by an intense but small and distant polar front (pictured right), but variable winds early will swing onshore as the swell peaks, so the Mornington Peninsula will be the best bet for a surf.
A mid-latitude front moving in from the Bight early next week should generate a secondary W/SW swell for Wednesday, peaking in the arvo. Wednesday morning looks fun with early NE winds, but a W/NW change is due into the afternoon as a deepening mid-latitude low starts moving in from the west.
This low is expected to kick up a short-lived pulse of SW swell later in the week but with onshore winds. Check back here Friday for any change to this.
