South Australian Forecast (issued Monday 6th January)
Best Days: Saturday on the Mid Coast
Recap
A moderate pulse of W/SW tending SW swell was seen over the weekend across the South Coast, but early W'ly winds swung onshore mid-morning. Sunday offered much better waves with offshore W/NW winds ahead of a mid-afternoon change.
The Mid Coast offered messy 1-2ft waves for most of the weekend. Today, yesterday afternoon's onshore change has persisted across the South Coast with a messy 3-4ft of swell, while the Mid Coast saw 2-3ft waves this morning but has eased back to a smaller 1-2ft this afternoon with improving winds.
This week (Jan 7-10)
Today's pulse of SW swell should ease gradually over the coming days, but a low quality S'ly windswell will also be in the mix from today's and tomorrow's onshore winds.
The Mid Coast will fade from a clean 1ft tomorrow while the South Coast will see an easing 3ft of swell at Middleton with 3-4ft sets at Waits (smaller than model forecasts as it is combining the windswell and groundswell at 6am tomorrow).
Wednesday should see slightly more favourable E'ly winds across the South Coast with similar conditions expected into Thursday and Friday mornings.
Through Thursday and Friday a long-range SW groundswell is expected to fill in but without much size.
This weekend onwards (Jan 11 - 12)
Conditions will unfortunately be poor on the South Coast with a strengthening S/SE'ly but the Mid Coast should be clean and offer inconsistent 1-2ft waves on Saturday before easing Sunday from 1-2ft.
Longer term there's nothing major on the cards with a strong blocking high moving in resulting in small swells and average winds from the SE.
