Victoria Forecast (issued Wednesday 8th January)
Best Days: Thursday east of Melbourne, Friday, early Saturday around Torquay, Monday east of Melbourne
Recap
Monday afternoon's large kick in groundswell eased back through yesterday but conditions were poor with a strong onshore wind across most spots.
Today the wind is around to the east with a mix of easing SW groundswell and building SE windswell making for junky conditions across the Surf Coast and peakier waves across the beaches east of Melbourne.
This week (Jan 9-10)
A stormy increase in SE windswell today will back off tomorrow and further into Friday as the strong E/SE winds through Bass Strait ease and then swing offshore from the N'th into Friday.
A long-range SW groundswell should also be in the mix across the Mornington Peninsula tomorrow afternoon before easing Friday.
This weekend onwards (Jan 11 - 12)
This swell will then be reinforced by a secondary pulse on Sunday (generated by the storm pictured right), slowing the easing trend into the start of next week.
Winds will unfortunately swing onshore Saturday morning and persist from the S/SW into Sunday creating poor conditions. The Surf Coast may see a period of W'ly winds early Saturday.
Monday and Tuesday are looking much better east of Melbourne with a variable wind from the E/NE.
As touched on last update, there's nothing major on the cards for next week, with the next increase in swell due next weekend, but we'll review this Friday.
