South Australian Forecast (issued Monday 13th January)
Best Days: Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning down South, Saturday on the Mid for tiny waves
Recap
The South Coast saw poor conditions with onshore winds and a moderate amount of swell, while the Mid Coast offered good waves Saturday afternoon as a new W/SW groundswell pulsed to 1-2ft on the incoming tide.
The swell eased into Sunday back to 1ft+ or so, and today tiny waves were continuing at 0.5-1ft on the Mid. The South Coast offered better 2ft waves at Middleton with 3ft sets at Waits with a new S/SW groundswell under NE winds.
This week (Jan 14 - 17)
Today's new S/SW groundswell on the South Coast was generated by a mid-latitude low moving towards Tassie over the weekend.
This has since moved off to the east and a drop in swell is expected over the coming days with favourable offshore winds each morning.
There's nothing significant for the rest of the week besides a small increase in long-range SW groundswell Friday but with poor and strengthening S'ly winds.
This weekend onwards (Jan 18 onwards)
A mid-latitude front passing under WA and dipping south-east will generate an initial W/SW swell for Saturday on the Mid to 1ft+, but a secondary S/SW groundswell will be generated as the system forms into a low and pushes east towards Tassie, aiming a fetch of W/SW gales through our southern swell window (pictured right).
This swell should peak down South on Sunday but winds will be poor and fresh from the S/SE.
Longer term, a new S/SW groundswell is due mid-next week but with poor S/SE winds, though we'll review this again on Wednesday.
