Southern Tasmania Forecast (issued Monday 13th January)
Best Days: Wednesday morning for keen surfers, Sunday morning, Monday morning
Recap
The weekend started off tiny with 1ft of W/SW swell and light W'ly wind. A new SW swell started to build Sunday as a mid-latitude low pushed across us, building from 1-2ft during the morning and peaking during the late afternoon but with poor onshore winds.
The swell has dropped back to a smaller but much cleaner 2ft this morning with a light offshore wind.
This week (Jan 14 - 17)
Today's swell will fade into tomorrow, but a rare S'ly groundswell is expected on Wednesday, generated by the mid-latitude low that generated today's swell, stalling to our south-east and aiming a fetch of SW gales on the edge of our swell window.
This should generate a small and inconsistent S'ly groundswell to 1-2ft across Clifton Wednesday before fading into Thursday.
This weekend onwards (Jan 14 onwards)
This will be related to a strong polar low pushing slowly towards us during the end of the week (pictured right) and into Saturday, aiming a fetch of gale to severe-gale W/SW winds through our swell window.
The swell should peak Sunday morning to 3ft or so across Clifton under early morning W/NW winds.
Beyond Sunday's swell we may see another larger swell for the following Wednesday but we'll review this in the next update.
