Victoria Forecast (issued Wednesday 22nd January)
Best Days: Thursday morning east of Melbourne, Friday morning, Sunday morning, Monday
Recap
Yesterday saw poor surf across both coasts with a small swell and fresh onshore winds.
Today started off similarly small but a strong new SW groundswell has started to push in although with fresh S/SE winds.
This week (Jan 23 -24)
This afternoon's increase in SW groundswell generated by a tight mid-latitude low pushing in from the west and across Tassie this morning should peak overnight and ease off through tomorrow.
Morning E/NE winds should create fun waves east of Melbourne, while Friday morning should see variable winds ahead of a freshening onshore SW change. So get in early!
This weekend onwards (Jan 25 onwards)
Sunday is looking better with an easing swell from 2-3ft on the Surf Coast and 4-5ft on the Mornington Peninsula under E/NE winds.
Monday will also be clean with a N'ly tending variable breeze, but the swell will be small and best suited to exposed coasts.
Longer term a moderate increase in long-range W/SW groundswell is due mid-late next week with winds from the southern to eastern quadrants, but we'll review this Friday.
