Victoria Forecast (issued Monday 27th January)
Best Days: Thursday morning and Saturday morning east of Melbourne, Sunday morning
Recap
A new swell built through Saturday but conditions were terrible with a fresh onshore wind. Yesterday morning offered OK waves across the state with lighter onshore winds on the Surf Coast and more variable winds on the Mornington Peninsula.
Today the swell was back to a small and clean 1-2ft on the Surf Coast with clean 3ft waves on the Mornington Peninsula. The swell should continue to ease during the afternoon as winds tend variable.
This week (Jan 28 - 31)
Winds on Wednesday look average and from the S/SE but a swing to lighter E'ly winds is expected on Thursday, favouring locations east of Melbourne.
Friday will see a return to onshores, while the weekend is looking better with E/NE winds Saturday morning and a light N'ly Sunday morning.
This weekend onwards (Feb 1 onwards)
As touched on above, winds will be better over the weekend, and one final pulse of W/SW groundswell is expected to fill in Saturday. This will be generated by a small mid-latitude low pushing in under WA mid-week.
Longer term, a good pulse of long-range but very inconsistent W/SW groundswell is due next Tuesday across the state under E/NE winds. Beyond this there doesn't look to be anything major, but we'll review this Wednesday.
