Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Thursday 13th March)
Best Days:
Recap
The swell and winds have just steadied out the last couple of days with morning offshores and clean conditions across most spots creating fun waves. Today a less favourable S'ly is blowing across Margs, while further north winds were lighter and more variable.
This Friday and weekend (Mar 12 - 16)
A strong pulse of S/SW groundswell is due to build tomorrow and peak Saturday morning across the state, generated by a polar front that's currently pushing up towards the state from the south-west.
Unfortunately a weak trough associated with the swell producing frontal system will create average winds in the South West as the swell peaks, while Perth and Gero should see more favourable SE winds. Sunday will unfortunately see similar winds as the swell eases.
Next week onwards (Mar 17 onwards)
Monday will start of slow with a leftover SW groundswell from the weekend under SE winds, but an afternoon pulse in strong SW groundswell that's due to peak Tuesday is expected.
This will be generated by a relatively benign frontal system moving in from the Southern Indian Ocean, forming into a deep polar low east of Heard Island on Friday before projecting up towards the Bight will generating winds in the gale to severe-gale-force range.
A peak in size is due on Tuesday morning to 6-8ft in the South West, 2-3ft in Perth and 4-5ft up at Gero as winds persist from the SE, favouring slightly protected locations.
Longer term there's nothing major on the cards at all, so make the most of the favourable conditions north of Margs this weekend, and Tuesday's swell.
