Eastern Tasmania Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 14th March)
Best Days: later Sunday, Monday, early Tuesday for leftovers
Recap
Tiny to flat conditions have reigned after the NE windswell earlier in the week, but we've got that good E/NE groundswell still on track for later Sunday and Monday morning. Read on for more details.
This weekend and Monday (Mar 15 - 17)
The weekend will see small waves from the NE as a strong northerly ridge develops down the Western Tasman Sea, but this will be windswell and as it kicks tomorrow afternoon, winds will be terrible and fresh to strong from the N/NE.
Moving into Sunday the NE windswell will fade as a W'ly change moves through, but the beginnings of a new E/NE groundswell should be seen into the late afternoon from Tropical Cyclone Lusi.
At the moment TC Lusi is drifting south from the Fiji region into an established trade-flow north of New Zealand, with a slight south-westward push towards the Australian East Coast.
This will generate a large and powerful E/NE groundswell for the East Coast that's expected to peak through Sunday, while we'll see it pulsing late probably to 2-3ft at open beaches ahead of a peak Monday morning to a very inconsistent 3-5ft.
Winds look excellent with all day offshores Sunday, while early Monday may be a little average with fresh N/NW winds, but a W'ly change mid-morning will clean things right up.
The swell will drop steadily during the day though so get in during the morning for the best of it.
Next Tuesday onwards (Mar 18 onwards)
There's nothing really significant on the cards for the rest of the week, with the possibility of some better S'ly swell next weekend, but we'll review this Monday.
