Broken Board
Yep, know the feeling too, snapped a board on my second wave of the morning last Sunday. Worse, it was only my second session on the board. Fortunately I had a few backups in the car, but my quiver which was looking good for the coming Autumn has taken a hit on the first swell.

Well it was kind of a rhetorical question. I know full well why, yet still surprised by the audacity.
I ordered a new big wave board on Tuesday, went with the full 4 / 6 layers of resin and fiberglass.
rather have the strength on big ones, who cares if its a bit heavier.
Its not like you're going to be pulling 360 airs on double overhead barrels. Well someone might but its not going to be me.
Ultra light boards ...... its like carbon fibre road bikes!
What marketing bullshit ..... none of us are Slater and none of us are Cadel Evans.
If you want a light bike loose a few kgs you fat bastard and while you're at it get out of that brightly coloured lycra.

The mass producers dunno how to laminate. They dunno how to work the resin in deep, then pull it out. They dunno how to put tension into the cloth. Its a lost art. There's more to glassing than slapping it on 'n slapping it off.

Who /how many still get their boards custom shaped? I just happen to be next door neighbour to Warners on the Northern Beaches so have gone with them this time.
Most of my previous were off the shelf but still by local shapers.
I've never tried a factory produced board.
Are they so much worse?
