Agnes Water
From what I can find in the way of surf reports and online surf videos, it looks to be 1 to 2ft max. I'm fine with the size, my main concern is how often?
Imagine the sunny hoax but smaller, hotter, just as fickle and instead of "Brissos" you get 4WD rum pigs from Gladstone and Rocky.
You'll get a few 'events' there during the year (howling sou-easters in winter and cyclones in Autumn) small beachies and maybe one or two really good days when the stars align but keep your expectations really low. When the waves are on the crowd is on too with all manner of flotsam and jetsam.
I haven't lived there but been quite a few times. People are nice generally and the fishing and crabbing is really good.
Agnes has been home to me for over 15 years. Has changed ALOT in that time. Expect long flat spells and then when any swell does arrive, these days is packed with crowds with little surf knowledge or etiquette. All Bundy, Gladstone and even Rocky crew descend on the place. Long boards, SUPs, backpackers, agh.
Rarely over 1 - 2 foot.
Sorry if it sounds gloomy, alot of people move here with stars in their eyes until reality sets in.
I have never fished it from the catwalk FR. I have seen and heard of great catches from there, especially those that put the time in. Can get busy.
I've trolled just out of casting range there and caught all sorts of pelagic's, spaniards, cobia, tuna, juv blacks and small sails. Same as what is caught from the stones.
BTW, loved your stories from the other thread, some lucky escapes there my friend. :)

Got an 8kg pinkie which was a surprise for me . I didn't think they'd be so far North on the East coast for some reason .
Those tea leaf trevally were thick as fuck. Must have caught 50 of the fucking things at one spot.
Started to refer to them as trevermin . Get it ? Trevally + vermin .
Haha .....yeah.
Anyway , if you were wondering how the boats and bongs deal turns out...
I had a trevally stink on me this summer.
I hate the things, my kids won't eat them so I release them but the fucking things pull so hard and fight dirty on light gear I end up losing all my fav tailor lures to them.
Yeah Blowin, during winter we actually get proper knobbies at times. I think I know where you were fishing, the trev's are thick but at night in winter some good snapper and XL grunter found under them when you can get through.
We won't talk about boats on here though...................:)
Talk about passing the turing test to post a comment. Thanks for the feedback! When the thread deteriorates into fishing talk is probably an indication of the amount of surfing I'd get to do :(. I love my fishing, just not as much. Not to flog a dead horse fitzroy, but how long are the average flat spells and roughly how often do you get to catch a wave?
The fella I was fishing with wouldn't shut up about the waves up there. Though he didn't mention Agnes , so who knows where he was talking about ......
I don't mind a trevally in a pinch . Food is food , but when there's Nannygai ( Seaperch ) on offer they can get fucked.
Bluefin trevally the tastiest I reckon. The rest will do as protein.
If you're talking boats , Fitz, then you're on the right path.
It's not a secret whats out there........just hard to get to and fickle.

Spudsurf, it depends on your definition of flat. You can go months without seeing a wave over waist - chest high. Over 6 months seeing a wave over shoulder high.

I mean unsurfable on any size surfboard, not a sup. Fitzy as long as most months there is surf waist - chest high without having to travel anywhere by boat or car is good. I can travel if I want anything bigger. Does this mean you would have waist high surf most months without a crowd and the crowd only turns up when it's bigger? Or are you lucky to get even waist high most months?
Spud, I once spent time here when the mozzies we're bigger than the waves. No one will own up about the potential here. But great spot. Remember this hard core surf site as shown by stu swimming into botany bay after ditching his board in disgust at the pussy ripples on offer at cape so lander one sesh.

Fitzy do you do charters out of there?
Got my father in law coming out next year and want to get him a red fish.
FR, I do occasion relief trips on the charters. See Damian from Hooked on 1770 charters, he is a good operator and knows his stuff and specialises on the reds.
Spud, come up and stay for a while and you'll get an idea. It's a beautiful part of the world. Nation Parks to the north and south, transient population, township quadruples in size over the holidays. I could go on and on, but you'll never know if you never go.
Fitz what are your water temps this time of year...wondering re that USA chopper that went down around 4pm yesterday...23 crew rescued within an hour 3 crew still missing and search has been called off and next of kin have been notified....and is now classed as a recovery ?

I'm thinking of moving to Agnes Water and I'm interested in hearing from anyone that lives or has lived their about how good the surf is. Firstly is it reasonable to expect to get at least 1 surf a month, with either long board or short board waves? If not which months are typically flat. Also as it's the only surf spot, how crowded does it get; i.e. are there more or less waves to go round per person than say Currumbin or Alex Heads?
