Lost in Cyclonic Froth

'May your glass be half full and a barman at the ready'

Now is not the time for rational thinking. Now is the time to loosen your emotional lead. Free yourself from this frigid reality. Cause after seven days of fairytale prognostications Tropical Cyclone Vania has formed in the Coral Sea.

For the past week expectant surfers have been keenly eyeing the major atmospheric models, watching each new run as it updated. Like an office-bound equivalent of wondering what's around the next headland: What will happen? Will we get waves or not? Where will I surf?

From the beginning all the models were well aligned for this system, showing little difference in formation, location and track. Always a reassuring sign. And now even the smaller changes are resolving and it appears that we are in for a bloody good swell event.

So now we are in the pre-swell limbo where the froth is always weighed against the possibility of dissappointment. What weather watcher hasn't experienced the deflation of a last-minute downgrade? Or a session that didn't match the hype?

But think back to times when the waves didn't match the hype: Were those early rushes of anticipation any less genuine? The goosebumps any less real?

Nah, now is the time to lose yourself awhile. Wallow in the expectation of waves to come and mull over the classic swells of yore. Talk shit with your mates. Remember all those cyclones with exotic names: Sose, Wati, Larry...

Bugger the chances of dissappointment. Get it out of your head. Concentrate on the potential.

And if you're one of those stoic naysayers putting the kybosh on other peoples froth, well, get off the lemons and stop denying yourself.

Cyclonic anticipation: drink it up.

I think it's going to be too far offshore to affect our weather Reflex. Ben or Craig may be able to verify this.

Wouldn't like to be in New Caledinoa though.

Stu, I've got enough froth to keep a Pommie barmaid busy for a week but a small correction is needed here.

TC Vania formed in the South Pacific, not the Coral Sea.

And Larry was a dud for surf and only succeeded in making bananas so expensive that only the Packer's could afford 'em.

carry on gents.

phonetically speaking abc, lots of froff from what I saw too.

Unless you made a drive to the most northern suburb of Melbourne.
