Last week we ran a sequence of Ox McKinley (so called cos he's as big as an Ox and just as smart) charging the end section at Shark Island.

It's a titanic struggle for supremacy, of a sort. Greg 'Ox' McKinley wrestles this Shark Island beast to the channel where he taps it out, shoulders hung low, before heading back out for another round. Documented by Darryl Menzies.

Ox can also add cancer survivor to that list, 'cause this time last year he was laid out with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and things were looking decidedly grim. He's healthy now, the odds are improving and he's using sympathy votes to claim set waves at the Island and other Cronulla reefs.

As Steve Hare launched himself into a throaty bowl at Shark Island, he wouldn't have known that his exploits were to be documented in a three way splt covering the entire breadth of Bate Bay.
