This week and weekend (Apr 10 - 13)

A good pulse of S/SW groundswell Tuesday has slowly eased back over the last couple of days, but exposed spots haven't really dropped below 3-4ft into this morning.

We should see the swell backing off through this afternoon and further tomorrow under light to moderate W'ly winds, favouring slightly protected east facing breaks.

A new long-range S/SW groundswell is due to fill in on Saturday and reach the 4-5ft later in the day and hold a similar size early Sunday ahead of a slow drop through Sunday.

Winds should weaken tend more variable favouring more exposed breaks over the weekend.

Next week onwards (Apr 14 onwards)

As touched on the last update, the outlook into next week is finally looking on the up with a couple of medium-large S/SW groundswell pulses expected from Wednesday through until the weekend.

The first pulse will be long-range and very inconsistent, generated by a vigorous polar low firing up west of Heard Island Tuesday which has since pushed north-east across the Kerguelen Islands while weakening. This swell should build slowly through Tuesday and peak Wednesday, reaching 5-6ft+ into the afternoon and holding a similar size Thursday morning.

A secondary weaker system will piggyback on the tail of this initial system, generating a secondary pulse of S/SW groundswell for later Thursday and Friday morning to a similar but likely touch smaller size.

Winds should swing around to light trades from Wednesday onwards, with more variable winds each morning, creating good conditions at most breaks each day.

Longer term we may see our first solid S/SW groundswell for the season arriving through Sunday/Monday, generated by a much larger polar low firing up in the Heard Island region early next week, but we'll confirm this Tuesday.
