Sydney, Hunter and Illawarra Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 6th November)
Best Days: Thursday, Saturday morning, Tuesday morning, Wednesday morning
Recap
Large messy waves continued across the region yesterday as persistent S'ly winds left only protected locations with a decent wave. This morning we've seen much better conditions with a strong easing S/SE groundswell and light offshore winds. The swell will continue to ease during the day as winds freshen from the E/NE.
Short Term (Nov 7-8)
Our recent episode of S'ly tending S/SE swell will continue to fade through tomorrow from the SE. Most open beaches should see 2-3ft sets early (up to 4ft on the Hunter) ahead of a more noticeable drop into the afternoon. Get in early for the best of it though as early N/NW winds will give into freshening NE winds.
Friday will be OK with a fun mix of SE and NE swell to 1-2ft but get in during the mornin for the best of it.
This weekend onwards (Nov 9-12)
A building SE swell is then due into Sunday and early next week as a surface trough deepens off the NSW coast resulting in strengthening S/SE winds being aimed into our region.
Conditions will be poor as the swell develops Sunday and Monday but the trough is expected to drift south through early Tuesday (picture right) resulting in winds swinging more S'ly and then S/SW into Wednesday. As this happens though the SE swell will swing S/SE in direction and ease as the fetch on the southern flank of the trough moves away from our swell window.
Longer Term (Nov 13 onwards)
Wave heights will continue to drop into the end of the week from the S'th as the trough decays to our south mid next week. We may see a fun E/SE swell later in the week from an E/SE fetch exiting New Zealand's Cook Strait but we'll have another update on this Friday.
