New Zealand - Paihia Surf Spots January

Hi all,

I'm going to be in Paihia for 5 days after Christmas. Does anyone know what Paihia is like for surfing or is it worth travelling somewhere in close proximity for better surf?

It's pretty sheltered in and around Paihia, but you're not far from some good waves just to the east and north.

A very consistent beachie to the east, and some semi secrets to the north.
