Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 27th December)
Best Days: Saturday, Tuesday morning
Recap
Christmas Day offered great waves across the state with a new SW groundswell and offshore winds. Yesterday winds were more S'ly with the swell dropping slightly while today we've got a smaller swell and onshore winds.
This weekend onwards (Dec 28 onwards)
A temporary drop in size is due Sunday ahead of a medium sized + pulse of SW groundswell Monday. This is being generated by an intense mid-latitude low to our west-southwest (pictured right), with the system expected to break down and weaken into tomorrow evening.
The Margaret River region should build to 6ft with the occasional 8ft set, 2ft+ in Perth and 4-5ft late in the day around Gero. Winds will unfortunately be average and fresh to strong from the S/SE tending S/SW as the swell peaks. Tuesday is looking better with SE winds as the swell eases.
A new swell is due mid-week generated by a secondary frontal system on the tail of the progression responsible for Monday's swell, but winds are unsure for this as Tropical Cyclone Christine moves inland, bringing onshores with it.
Check back here on Monday for an update on this though.
