Northern NSW and South East Queensland Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 10th January)
Best Days: Saturday morning, Sunday morning, early Monday, Thursday morning, Friday morning
Recap
Onshore winds created poor conditions across most spots yesterday with a healthy mix of swells, although the further south down the North Coast you went, the cleaner conditions got.
Today offered the first real morning of decent waves with lighter more variable winds across most spots and a fun mix of swells to 2-3ft on the Goldy and 2-3ft along the Far North Coast, smaller further south.
This weekend (Jan 11 - 12)
The trough responsible for the E/SE swell across the region today is slowly weakening and as a result a slow drop in size is expected into the weekend. Still there should be plenty of waves through Saturday and Sunday morning with generally light winds.
Next week (Jan 13 onwards)
Next week will start out very slow with a low point in swell activity expected on Tuesday morning.
At this stage no major size is expected into the end of next week besides 2-3ft surf on the Goldy and 2ft waves on the Far North Coast, but the developments into next weekend and beyond are what we're really interested in.
A couple of tropical depressions are forecast to deepen within the relatively weak trade-flow and we should see one of these troughs deepen right off the SE Qld/Northern NSW coast in 1.5 weeks time.
So sit tight and keep a close eye on the WAMs and long forecasts.
