Recap
The surf started off poor across both coasts Saturday morning with a fresh onshore down South and tiny swell on the Mid Coast.
A new W/SW groundswell arrived into the afternoon offering good 1-1.5ft sets as winds remained favourable.
A stronger pulse of SW groundswell filled in on Sunday and this came in above expectations on the Mid with clean fun 1-2ft sets. The South Coast remained poor but solid with fresh to strong onshore winds and a junky windswell in the mix.
Today both swells have backed off as average winds continued down South, while the Mid was clean but tiny.
This week (Jan 21 -24)
The outlook for this week is average with a small mix of S/SW windswell and long-range SW groundswell not expected to offer any real size across the South Coast, while the Mid Coast will remain tiny to flat.
Winds will persist from the S/SE tomorrow, but swing more E/SE Wednesday and then cross-offshore from the E/NE Thursday morning, making this the best day to head for a surf. S'ly winds will then return for Friday and strengthen from the S/SE into the weekend.
This weekend onwards (Jan 25 onwards)
A long-range SW groundswell is due across the South Coast Saturday before easing Sunday, mixed in with a junky S/SE windswell from strong S/SE winds Saturday.
Sunday should be cleaner and peaky with a swing around E/NE winds, while Monday will be clean as a whistle with a small to tiny and easing swell.
Longer term a better SW groundswell is on the cards for mid-late next week, but we'll review this again on Wednesday.
