Recap

A good pulse of S/SW groundswell filled in Friday afternoon and peaked Saturday morning across the state but conditions were terrible in the South West all weekend with morning S-SSW winds.

Perth offered much better conditions with a clean 2ft to occasionally 3ft of swell, while Gero saw solid waves and SE winds each morning.

Today the swell was smaller again with average S/SE winds.

This week (Mar 17 - 21)

The last pulse of solid swell for at least a week is due across the coast tomorrow as the Southern Indian Ocean settles down with the passing of the Long Wave Trough east across Victoria.

In saying this, the swell due tomorrow (arriving late today in the South West) will be very solid, generated by a intense polar low that fired up in the Heard Island region late last week. Satellite observations confirm a fetch of sever-gale to sub-storm-force SW gales being aimed at us, generating a strong long-period SW groundswell for tomorrow.

A peak in size to 8ft+ in Margs, 2-3ft in Perth and 4-6ft up at Gero is due and winds will be SE across most spots while Gero will unfortunately see fresh S/SE winds.

Wednesday as the swell eases unfortunately doesn't look much better with fresh S/SE winds across Gero and Margs, while Perth should see straighter E'ly winds.

Into the end of the week wave heights will continue to drop away with only a small steadying swell due into Friday. Winds will remain average with S/SE winds Thursday but Friday is looking fun as an inland heat trough moves offshore and winds swing E/SE.

This weekend onwards (Mar 22 onwards)

As touched on above, the Indian and Southern Oceans will go quiet over the coming week resulting in smaller levels of swell into next week but with generally favourable winds. Therefore make the most of the coming swell in semi-protected locations and check back here on Wednesday for the latest update.
