Green light for Tweed Coast Pro
If you've been reading our Northern NSW Forecast Notes you'd be well on top of the forthcoming run of swell in that region.
Well, the Woz is on top of it too, they've (finally) called a green light for the Tweed Coast Pro at Cabarita, and they've chosen this coming Sunday and Monday as the running days. Let's go to the press release!
“We have been tracking this swell for a week now and the forecast has been constantly changing every day,” said WSL's Tweed Coast Pro Contest Director Renato Hickel. “Although it’s been changing in size and direction it has stayed relatively true for this coming weekend and indicates we should have what we need to run a successful, exciting and entertaining event."
At this point it's not clear what format the competition will use, but there are 11 surfers each in the men's and women's draw plus a yet-to-be-decided local wildcard. There'll also be local expression sessions.
The heat draws for Day One are:
Heat 1: Isabella Nichols, Macy Callaghan, Philippa Anderson
Heat 2: Stephanie Gilmore, Zahli Kelly, Tweed Coast Wildcard (TBC)
Heat 3: Sally Fitzgibbons, Tyler Wright, Molly Picklum
Heat 4: Nikki van Dijk, Keely Andrew, Holly Wawn
Tweed Coast Pro Men's Round 1 Matchups:
Heat 1: Wade Carmichael, Adrian Buchan, Conor O'Leary
Heat 2: Owen Wright, Ethan Ewing, Tweed Coast Wildcard (TBC)
Heat 3: Julian Wilson, Jack Robinson, Mikey Wright

The live webcast starts 7am (AEST) on Sunday.

i have the occasional look at the cam and i can confidently say its shit.
Sand is pretty good, actually resembles a bit of a point break if the swell is ESE. Here's a clip of Powelly from a couple of weeks back - shows the length of the bank. The swell was a bit weak and junky that day, but you get an idea...

Cabarita is a burger of wave though. Is has it's day but they're pretty few and far between imo.

Bruns is bubble border...so nope.
If they're from south of Coomera-ish then no they are within the GC/Nth NSW bubble. But if they're north of the Goldy then yes they do have to quarantine upon return (well unless that stupid cow Anastasia gives them an exemption like she gave the AFL head honchos to come to Brisbane.

They cancelled Margs half way through an event when there was an attack 7km away. This is no different. BTW Swellnet - you can see what happened on your replay at 501pm about 1.45 in. Birds everywhere and old mate got hit like a car crash. So fucking sad.

We are really short on board riders in the surf these days and need more marketing events like this to attract newcomers.

Fats/Rita can be fun on the right equipment with the East/soueast swell direction. Lived @ Kingo for four years & generally surfed down in front of the Pub where it can actually barrel. Back beach can be really good on its day as well. Sunday start of the broadcast/ not Saturday?

Surfed Caba tonight, classic misleading drive-by: car park jammed, but lineup empty (probably because no one could get a park, thanks to all of the contest infrastructure and broadcast trucks). Happens a lot in summer, actually.
Anyway, the surf was rubbish. The bank seems to have gone weird in the last week or so, it wasn't enjoying the onshore or the full tide and the swell direction was too east (even ENE). Should improve overnight and will enjoy the lower tide, but expectations are pretty low.
Good wrap Ben...picked up yer VIP WSL invite & still got time to report back...Cool.
