Yellow Alert For WSL Finals

LOWER TRESTLES, San Clemente, Calif., USA (September 7, 2022) - The World Surf League (WSL) has put the World Title-deciding Rip Curl WSL Finals on Yellow Alert for a probable start within 24 hours from now.

“We’re going on Yellow Alert for a possible start in the next 24 hours,” said Jessi Miley-Dyer, WSL SVP of Tours and Head of Competition. “Right now it looks like we’ve got great waves on Thursday and Friday on the forecast, but we do have this potential storm with the potential for onshore winds for Friday. Having said that, that’s why we’re going on Yellow Alert. We know we’re going to get good waves and we could be on.”

All eyes will be on the Rip Curl WSL Finals and the world’s best surfers including ranking’s leaders Carissa Moore (HAW) and Filipe Toledo (BRA) as they try to fend off a hungry field of contenders looking to dismantle their phenomenal seasons.

Note to self: Set alarm. Put beers in fridge. Lower expectations. Feed the mayonnaise to the tuna fish.

Craig Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 07:41 am new

Haha.

Nick Bone Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 06:53 am new

So need a full 10 hours to run a maximum of 20 heats? It’s either on or off. Won’t have endure 1762 next calls?

batfink Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 07:29 am new

Hey Nick. 20 heats? I’m counting a maximum of 6 on each side, with a possible 5 if the final is done in 2 heats. So 12 max or 10 minimum. What am I missing?

+ Elo has a sneaky inclusion just prior to the Final:

A Freestyle SUP session!!

Who could have known SUP riding could be so much fun and look so cool ... except perhaps for surfing's mystical spiritual leader ... Erik

nasigoreng Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 01:38 pm new

Fuck that is funny, the music!

Looks kinda like a hole digging induced psychosis; only on water and wearing lycra.

memlasurf Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 03:17 pm new

Oooo that 360º backhand pike with a cross bow was a doozy. All with pump up sup.

Craig Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 04:05 pm new

sean killen Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 07:14 am new

Lower expectations and endure on hold calls spot on boys ..

lost Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 08:39 am new

Expectations low and alarm set for loud. Pretty keen to watch this. Having 3 aussies in the mix certainly makes it more interesting.

freeride76 Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 08:46 am new

Question is, how early is too early for a bloody Mary?

stunet Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 09:01 am new

4am is fine says Elo, and he even dressed for the occasion.

DudeSweetDudeSweet Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 09:29 am new

Huh? You’re in charge of the bloody write up. If you’re not already tottering around the house with a highball in your hand you’ve left your run a bit late.

freeride76 Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 09:28 am new

I'm a classic lightweight these days.

3 mid-strengths and I'm anybodies.

DudeSweetDudeSweet Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 09:51 am new

Same. However ability to shit talk remains undiminished.

Regardless, chilled beers will be cracked at kickoff. I’ve got a feeling it may be essential to fully realise the grand final vibe, Particularly with the surf forecast. Having a word about this with my mother in law yesterday. She’s a huge Swans fan, so I tried to describe the head high shit-winds Trestles set up to her as equivalent to the AFL grand final being staged in a lumpy, potholed spare suburban block of land. Replete with dogshit and illegal rubbish dumps over the playing surface.

She laughed and reckons it sounds like the WSL are useless cnts who couldn’t organise their way tip piss out of a boot if you wrote instructions on the heel*

*Or words to that effect.

Standingleft Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 10:09 am new

Thx double-up, made my day

peabo Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 09:15 am new

Can't imagine staying up all night for this. Sure to be disappointing. Hopefully catch the grand final when I wake up.

ilikelamb Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 09:56 am new

Its just such a shame John John is injured and cant surf in the event.

Standingleft Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 10:07 am new

yyeeeewwww

Paul McD Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 12:33 pm new

Who needs a shitty trophy from Trestles when you surf this good and are living the dream. So sick!

Body slide Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 01:42 pm new

and that its not at an overhead barreling point break

Surfalot67 Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 04:48 pm new

Insane. Something tells me JJF cares little for the tour. Why would he? His bros make good coin surfing sick waves and living the dream.... I'm sure he doesn't miss Rio and Portugal.

Solitude Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 11:54 am new

just watched Jesse's call on the WSL site. Looks very fun in the background.

DudeSweetDudeSweet Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 12:31 pm new

WSL site says next call in 12 hours.

12:30AM call with 1AM start?

freeride76 Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 12:48 pm new

yep.

I'm having a midday nap.

crg Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 02:59 pm new

I used to be the world's best daytime sleeper.
Coulda won gold at the Olympics for sleeping.
The midday nap is now impossible, I've lost the ability for any daytime sleep altogether.
I'm in envy.

freeride76 Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 03:16 pm new

I couldn't cover comops without advanced napping skills.

I can drop for a 15 minuter wherever, whenever.

lost Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 06:28 pm new

So Jelly of folk who can nap. I’m the bloke walking the isles of a plane aimlessly after 9 hours in the hating on everyone I see who is asleep. Even after a bunch of pills !

memlasurf Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 03:21 pm new

Even watching the cricket with a bit of afternoon sun peeping through the window on a couch?

crg Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 03:26 pm new

I could get up at 3am, take a 2 hour yoga practice, go for a dawn patrol, come in for brekky, then a second surf, then come home have lunch, get a blowjob, lay on the couch and still be awake.
It's gone.

Burgess Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 07:46 pm new

Pro tip- Couple bongs after that blowjob and you'll be kipping all arvo

freeride76 Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 03:30 pm new

Just hearing the word cricket and it's zzzzzzzzz

Remigogo Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 07:24 pm new

Less Viagra and more test cricket should do the trick.

Solitude Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 09:09 pm new

Cool clip, my thoughts:
- Filipe’s board looks too short.
- No one is close to Ethan on the face.
- Jack’s airs look the best
- Tati had a better bottom turn than Italo
- Steph’s wave was incredible, shame she’s starting so far back.

Paul McD Thursday, 8 Sep 2022 at 06:52 pm new

I have a funny feeling that Italo is gonna create a big upset. His fitness is at an all time high and he rips more than he's credited for...this time last year he'd be almost unbackable fave. But i'll be cheering for an all Aussie podium finish.

Great surfing by all, its the WSL & judges call.
Whom-ever can get the longest & or biggest 2 waves per heat will probably win.
Enjoy Jacks dynamics; positioning & style. Pocket carve 360 is a 10.
