Julian Wilson (AUS), 23, has claimed his maiden ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) victory today, besting a rampaging Gabriel Medina (BRA), 18, in the dying seconds of the Rip Curl Pro Portugal.

The Rip Curl Pro Portugal completed a mammoth day of competition today, determining seven of eight Quarterfinalists in improving three-to-five (1 – 1.5 metre) surf at Supertubos and setting up a possible finish for tomorrow.

Jack Freestone (AUS) took out the Oakley ASP World Junior Championships Bali over Hawaiian Ezekiel Lau (HAW) in a battle of the in-form surfers of the event. With the swell dropping and unfavourable winds, the surfers were forced of unleash their aerial attacks in the 2 to 3 foot (1.5 meter) punchy surf at Keramas today.

The Rip Curl Pro Portugal commenced today with Round 1 and the opening eight heats of Round 2 completed in improving three-to-five foot (1 – 1.5 metre) waves at the primary venue of Supertubos.

Kelly Slater (USA), 40, reigning 11-time ASP World Champion, claimed his 51st elite tour victory today, besting celebrated wildcard Dane Reynolds (USA), 27, in a hard-fought Final to take out the Quiksilver Pro France.

"I'm not much of a hassler. Competition is fun for me and I don't put pressure on myself to do well."
