The East Gippsland Shire Council (EGSC) is proposing to develop an all-tide ocean access boat ramp at Bastion Point.

The proposed development will consist of:
* 130 metre long, 2.3 – 2.8 metre high break-wall
* two lane boat ramp
* boat loading / unloading facilities
* access road
* turning area
* boat trailer and car park
* fish cleaning amenities
* catch weighing facilities
* boat washing facilities
* permanently moored barge with sand pump
* lighting

This development will cause irreversible damage to Bastion Point and the surrounding coastline. We do not support such an expensive and inappropriate development, which would affect many users of the Bastion Point area. Just got word from the Save Bastion Point crew that they've got a new petition running, to save the point from "large scale breakwater and boat ramp development" at Bastion Point, Mallacoota. The ABC reported in August that the Vic Govt "has asked East Gippsland Shire Council to clarify its intentions for the Bastion Point boat ramp by the end of the year".

Here's the petition: https://www.avaaz.org/en/petition/Save_Bastion_Point_Mallacoota_Victoria…

Here we go again ........ I thought the argument was lost long ago.

With apologies to P J Keating ..... Never get between a local council and a bucket of money.

Very sad news - heavy construction equipment began rolling into Bastion Point on 11 November, as work on the breakwall and boatramp began. Check the 'Destruction Gallery' here.

Never been there, but to see them destroying that natural landscape as you say is sad.

This environmental disaster is happening. For the pictures go to

I live an hour north of Mallacoota but have visited "The Wilderness Coast" (yes it is marketed with that title Ha Ha!) many times. The East Gippsland Shire based in Bairnsdale Victoria (2 hours away)are the main drivers I believe, and the mayor believes he is doing the town the town a favour. They have begun construction of a road along the rock platform/ beach to build a 2x 130m rock walls at right angles to the point. The public consultation process received 400+ submissions, over 85% were opposed - all were ignored. NEVER let this happen at your local break!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More on Bastion Point , Mallacoota.
This video details the corruption that is required to get illogical developments such as this approved. (from savebastionpoint.org.au)

I feel for the surfers of this town (I live 1 hour north) and and the people who put years of honest toil into opposing a corrupt, stupid, greedy boat ramp. East Gippsland Shire should resign.
