Benji Brand, Skeleton Bay - video

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

Since the big swell hit Skeleton Bay two weeks ago we've been waiting for the footy to surface. We had a teaser with Matt Bromley's mix but here's the real deal: Benji Brand with a quarter mile speed burn down the point. The wave works up a head of steam after the 30 seconds, hits powerband around the minute mark, and goes into hyperspace somewhere around 1:30.

Best wave yet caught on GoPro? It's gotta be somewhere in the mix...

Close, but I think this one by Kalani Chapman at Cloudbreak is still the best ever shot on a Gopro

udo Wednesday, 11 Jun 2014 at 08:41 pm new

Eerie almost sci fi un fucking believable.

scoopmaster Wednesday, 11 Jun 2014 at 08:51 pm new

To point out what is already obvious to anyone who's used a gopro it's actually about a 45 second ride (the replay is in real time). Still bloody amazing considering most of my videos last about 6 seconds....... better stop comparing before i get performance anxiety

as for gopro vids here's a nice wipeout at shipsterns:

Mesmerising.

stunet Wednesday, 11 Jun 2014 at 09:21 pm new

That just about sums it up - mesmerising. That last deep section when he's low on the flats and it's pitching wide is amazing; he's in perfect trim, there's no water drops on the glass, and everythings in focus. Don't get much better.

wayneoz Wednesday, 11 Jun 2014 at 10:09 pm new

How's the smile on his dial after that one !!
More tube time there than all of Victoria on a good weekend .

syril500 Wednesday, 11 Jun 2014 at 10:40 pm new

Incredible. So deep on that bigger section.

yocal Thursday, 12 Jun 2014 at 08:34 am new

The speed he has is incredible in that last deep section. imagine that!!

Craig Thursday, 12 Jun 2014 at 10:08 am new

After making that super wide/clean double spit barrel that last section seems to grow into a super shallow sand-dredging monster, lucky he got through it and could get off the wave.

Incredible!

Love the spit in the last section - could almost feel it.

shoredump Thursday, 12 Jun 2014 at 03:09 pm new

caml Thursday, 12 Jun 2014 at 04:48 pm new

Words cant describe . But i wonder how his brain may have been affected , mine would be

goofyfoot Thursday, 12 Jun 2014 at 05:58 pm new

Hey Caml spewing you didn't have a go pro on your head during that Tombies mental pit that's floating around the net. The view from inside that thing would have been fucked up

Blowin Thursday, 12 Jun 2014 at 06:18 pm new

Camel , I was going to post a photo of you on THAT wave on here but was not sure if you maybe wanted to keep it just for yourself.

mick-free Thursday, 12 Jun 2014 at 06:38 pm new

Think I would retire after that wave. Geez its going to be busy next swell. This video is on every surf website in the world plus every surfer posting the shit of it on fb

mick-free Thursday, 12 Jun 2014 at 07:09 pm new

Also I think Camel's tombstone barrel is just ridiculous. Please tell - but how far back in the barrel are ya???? If you freeze at 11 seconds the lip is staring to throw 25 feet in front of the board.

southey Thursday, 12 Jun 2014 at 07:49 pm new

Mick . That swell had guys coming from everywhere . Two W-Oz lads I know flew there for that swell 5 days in and out . ! Keen !?

shoredump Thursday, 12 Jun 2014 at 08:27 pm new

Best surfing thing caught on any type of film in the history of surfing.

caml Thursday, 12 Jun 2014 at 10:01 pm new

Alls i know is that in indonesia a couple of times my brain blew a fuse because of such deep long tubes . Honestly could not even remember my own name for a few days afterwards. The tombys barrel was a mere section in comparison, but i could not see anything but snow as i entered the tomb from behind . It was all due to experience that i emerged. But really it doesnt compare to the one palm camel & potts long jump comp

wellymon Friday, 13 Jun 2014 at 07:02 pm new

One palm, Caml....? You rate that eh....? Backhand or is that your forehand....?

caml Thursday, 12 Jun 2014 at 10:04 pm new

Best inner tube vision yet?

Craig Wednesday, 13 Aug 2014 at 11:36 am new

Has to be, he's in the barrel the whole fricking time! Benji was in and out a couple of times. Amazing.

mothart Wednesday, 13 Aug 2014 at 11:45 am new

Is there any way of working out how long the barrel is in real time?
