I'm no Ment's expert, but those rights looked more like HT's?
Yeah not totally sure on the location of the rights. One section looked like Rifles, and then the smaller surf looked like HT's.
Indo, what do you think?
Dont know, because there is no vid showing for me :(
Back now.
Definitely some HTs in there (maybe all), but could be mixed up with Riffles, as not all the lefts are Maccas either, all from water look like Maccas, but the solid ones shot from land aren't, wave looks more Hideaways or E-bay (but cant see those two rocks), i cant remember what the background should look like, gets weird with such strong zoom in lenses, maybe could even be Green bush shot from land?.
Edit= watching it again for me its all HTs.
Lances right is hts
Well they just changed it cause it originally said Rifles. And yeah I do know they are the same............
Lovd the look of some of those boards he was riding: the Stretch quads.
Holy fuck some of that surf looked more crowded than the superbank.
Yeah, that's one reason I questioned whether it was HT's. It gets SUPER crowded. Also one of the bigger ones seemed to slightly break on the outer reef first on take off before hollowing out.
My experience with Rifles is take off and run. I was also trying to make out the background reef/shore setup.
Great vid though. Some pretty solid Maccas.
Nice style , very smooth. Gotta love a quad.
Id Like to know the dimensions of the orange board...... beautiful surfing.
Yeah looks like the perfect board for that size Maccas, so fun!!
All boards dimensions on stretch's website
Solid style of surfing for sure.
Not sure of his pick in board colours tho..?????
When u can surf like that u can get away with it. Myself ,i'l stick to a white one - don't want to draw attention to my average efforts.
Great great surfing. Holy hell it was good, that orange board looked the goods but the crowds. I would be a bit pissed if I'd stumped up the cash to get there only to surf with so many guys. Is that typical?
Cheers for fixing. How's old mates pig dog. Can navigate his way through em
I was more surprised about Maccas. From the 2 minute mark it looks more like the other recently famous left nearby?
I didn't know you could paddle into Maccas from that far up the reef on a big swell
Yeah those bigger lefts shot from the land look like the bush. That double up right was pretty sick! Fuck it's crowded though
I agree bigger lefts Greenbush.
Floyd just heard from an operator up there , 55 boats working the ments this year...Out of Padang Sibolga etc +the resorts + the cheapy land base camps+ the odd barely seaworthy indo shitters.
and if you stay away from playgrounds and maccas you still score empty line ups
I heard 47 out of Padang from an operator, so maybe with the boats that operate out of Sibolga that would be about correct, pretty crazy.
It will never happen but IMO they really need to somehow control numbers of boats to under 30 or at the very least limit how many boats are in the playgrounds area at one time as now there is so many land based options, its not just the crowds but the damage that is being done to the reefs by anchoring cant be good.
What is the song playing?
50 boats .... that's a lot of human energy in the water.
When we headed home a few weeks ago there were 8 boats parked up at HT's. If 10 per boat + land camps + feral camp/losmens...............................well you do the sums.
As mibs said, if you stay away from the "premier" breaks or get your ass out of bed at grey light, you will score empty line ups.
Last place I travelled to in the Phillos we didn't see another white fella the whole time we were there, let alone another surfer.
No need to rush, no need to sweat. Wait for the tide and don't headbutt the reef. Nearest hospital is a twenty hour journey by water buffalo, open deck pump boat and bus.
Just can't get my head around forking that kind of coin to deal with crowds like that. Especially when you can stay at Bobbies for under a hundred a day.
The equator telegraph says 2 Russian boats starting out of Padang in late March next year .
Noooo000000000!!!!!!
Oh come on ID. Embrace the future.............:)
In all honesty ive never even met a Russian surfer, i only blow through Bali and haven't surfed there for over ten years and tend to stay away from crowded areas, im kinda a bit worried from what i hear though.
More waves in this vid,
So the orange board is 5'3 x 19 1/4 and the flouro green a 5'6.....geez a ments quiver all under 6ft.
Good work 99;)
that crowd is out of control at HTs.. I surfed there a few years ago by land.. only really one good take off spot..and with most people paying top $$$ for a week on a boat everyone is even more hungry for waves...
Its pretty crazy HT's and Maccas have become just as crowded even possible more crowded than Nias.
In my experience (only really passing through for a few days) a lot of the time at Nias you can catch gaps in the crowd between rotations for say 15 minutes, where there will be sometimes just five guys out then back to between 10-20, but at Maccas and HT,s with boats sitting right there, gaps in crowd are much shorter because it only takes a minute before they zoom out and drop more guest off, and often not just one or two but more often than not three or four or more.
Its a real sad thing to say but the best thing that could happen for crowds (boat numbers) in Mentawai's would be for a quake to ruin either Maccas or HT,s, which is always on the cards, take Maccas or HT,s out of the equation and you will see boat numbers halved almost overnight.
Yep, thats a really sad thing to say ID :-(
Lets hope that we can tolerate each other enough to just deal with it, share the waves and support the local communities for allowing us on their turf.
Even if they don't surf.
