jeepers! You can tell some guys have got the "stand on board and dive off" technique more dialled than others
That must be a terrifying moment when your in the lip just praying you don't go backwards over the falls on a wave that size, its bad enough when it happens in 6 ft waves

A few of those guys doing the stand on board dive off technique are trying to get down as deep as they can with vests inflated......good fucking luck trying that with a balloon on your back. Guy at 10 sec right of screen in red undoing his legrope he dosent want 10ft or more of board still attached to him.

Yeah that would be one disadvantage with wearing one. Wonder how many people wouldn't be out there if they didn't have one?

Pretty sure Mark Healey took his legrope off on that cleanup bomb at cloudbreak.

It is a point Shane Dorian has made a few times, that the main peril of paddling really big waves is getting caught inside. Because you have to sit, for hour after hour, right on the impact zone. When the extra big set comes thru at a place like Peahi, you almost certainly will be caught inside. It's a certainty. It's not really avoidable. So you'd better be mentally and physically OK with that, Shane cheerfully warns.
