That vid shows how a good pointbreak highlights style flaws. A few guys you see can do alright turns, they know how to surf, but they make a lot of mistakes between turns with small rail bogs, sitting on the wrong part of the wave face, or holding their body in weird positions etc etc.

I didn't realise Rincon was so hollow on the inside. That first barrel by Dane looked like low tide Burleigh.

evosurfer Wednesday, 18 Feb 2015 at 04:57 pm new

Well its a local point break not a ASP world contest with the best surfers in the world.
Have you ever watched yourself surf ? I bet you are about 50% as good as you think
you are. Christ your picky. Although I do agree about the most over rated surfer in the
history of surfing Dane Reynolds.

Gee I was going to say the exact opposite about Dane. The guy has everything: Power to burn, radical and airs, maybe not super stylish but he rips. Easily the best surfer out there and made Yadin look a bit lame as far as power hacks go, and Yadin is far from lame.

The single greatest surfing turn I've ever seen in real life was by Yadin Nichol.

memlasurf Wednesday, 18 Feb 2015 at 06:32 pm new

I can believe it, he is a great surfer. Don't know if you saw Sunset and Haleiwa a couple of years ago I think when Dane was in a some contests. They were some of the greatest turns I have ever seen on the idiot box. One reverse something he did in big Haleiwa was ridiculous and some of the man turns he was doing at really solid Sunset were massive. If he is overrated the rate must be bloody high.

Agree. Dane has this very unique explosive way of surfing. Lots of power and plenty of progression. He is actually interesting to watch surf. People also forget Dane is 6"0 and like 180 pounds (maybe more at the moment - too much In and Out Burger). He has plenty of beef to throw around.

It's a beautiful wave. When it's winter in Cal, blue skies, and deep lows it really is hard to beat....then again you have to find a park.

Blowin Wednesday, 18 Feb 2015 at 05:58 pm new

I guess it's a sign of the times when I say that it didn't seem THAT crowded. I mean I would probably only surf in a crowd that size every couple of years or so, but after seeing Snapper in real life and Noosa and Manly on the Cams, it seemed pretty reasonable.

zenagain Wednesday, 18 Feb 2015 at 06:37 pm new

Agreed, some nice surfing on a beautiful running right.

Didn't seem that crowded to me too. Had a squiz at the Noosa cam just a while back. What a fucking shitfight. Any semblance of surf etiquette gone right out the door there.

goofyfoot Wednesday, 18 Feb 2015 at 06:58 pm new

@ evosurfer,
Dane Reynolds over rated? About the only thing he hasn't done is be a standout in big waves but hes fucking unbelievable, maybe do yourself a favour and log onto his website, or go on you tube and watch his heat vs Parko at snapper a few years ago when he made him look stupid.

shaun Wednesday, 18 Feb 2015 at 07:30 pm new

Surfed it mid 80's a few times pretty big, like surfing on your own, I imagine parking would keep the crowds down these days :;-)

evosurfer Wednesday, 18 Feb 2015 at 08:00 pm new

If Dane is so wonderful why when he gets an invite to a pro event he surfs like a clown
and never delivers???
O I get it he is too advanced. Bullshit.
And he talks like a RETARD.

walter-r-white Thursday, 19 Feb 2015 at 09:22 am new

Said the racer/surfer bogan...

goofyfoot Wednesday, 18 Feb 2015 at 08:09 pm new

Contests aren't the be all and end all mate. WHy does Jon Jon constantly say Dane is the surfer he most enjoys watching?
Oh and I thought we were talking about surfing ability, who gives a fuck how he talks!
How old are you? 10?

nickg Wednesday, 18 Feb 2015 at 11:27 pm new

great vid.

that looked like a wave shape/size/power that would be accessible to 90% of surfers.

cameraman did a good job of hiding the crowd.

alternatively, it's actually not crowded (by Sydney standards). imagine if your local was reeling like that?

i'm calling weekday, mid-morning to just before lunch was when most of the footage was made.

220 million people in USA and 22 million in aus. I surf in south west wa where no one lives compared to the us and our crowds are far worse than that. Might have to move to California to get some uncrowded waves

Coops70 Thursday, 19 Feb 2015 at 12:09 am new

I lived in Cali for 8 years and surfed up and down the coast and got some great uncrowded waves near SanFran, i think the cold water helps and people are generaly mellow except santa cruz harbour! those so called locals are fuck wits.. and yadon rips

freeride76 Thursday, 19 Feb 2015 at 09:17 am new

Huge fan of Dane but that was some of the least impressive footage I've seen of him.
