not even in the next lifetime .... crazy.
We've had a place nearby for years, but I can't bear to watch the Right, let alone surf it.
caml, is there some way of predicting the waves that will keep some sort of conventional shape, rather than those that just savagely dump on you from mid-face?
Wally i havent surfed there yet but have heard that theres a trick to it . My knowledge from other slab waves is ; know the period excactly , know the tide excactly , swell direction , often patience is key , knowing if you want 1st 2nd 3rd etc wave of set plays a major part . At the right the most perfect waves have been successfully surfed by Mmathews & Crossy ( thats just from observing over the years ) film & pics .it takes great observation skills & experience to continuously survive this mutant slab i reckon
Have you not surfed it because you don't tow caml? Do you tow? If not how come?
Sorry for going a bit off topic
Excuse my french, but that is honestly fucked up shit
Good post above Caml, well said;)
Sorry goofyfoot long story that one . But do u really think im up for the challenge ? how many backhanders have u seen that werent either wiping out ( kerby brown morgs ) or in front of the barrell ? i spent a few months in 2010 studying it then sorta focussed my goals elsewhere . I was keen to paddle it or tow , either standup or bodyboard but at the time i was studying it a mate got attacked by a shark there just after i got out of the water at the beachbreak in front of it . It started to get popular too & other waves looked more inviting elsewhere
From the other waves I've seen you ride yeah I reckon you would be for sure!
I agree it does look extremely tricky and unpredictable. Id love to watch it on a big day to see it close up. Do you agree with hippo, Mathews etc that it's oz's heaviest wave?
I heard Jon Jon went there, got one wave then went straight back to the boat. True?
Notsure about jon thats suprising but if the forehand guys are getting near death beatings & we r talking mathews hippo norris antman etc etc they all been wooped . For sure its one of the heaviest waves in world ! I have an invite from chris ross but im not hurrying to use it at this stage becos when a clean 4-6 metre swell forms im keener to paddle onto a diffrent location or 2 . Theres a bit of a crowd on that place nowadays . If the chance happens tho i will be very happy to at least watch the action close up or better still dive on the reef on a flat day .
yeah i haven't surfed it yet either. it's not heavy enough.
might go paddle surf it on my coolite for a write-off next time its big enough.
Anyone seen the sequence of Antman Paterson at the right on Russell Ords instagram.
Yeah isn't that the one Antman said almost ended him ? Coming from that bloke is a massive call . Sobering !!!!
Yeah huge day ant & twiggy had major experiences of the extreme kind
I see back a while crossy saying he wants to paddle it?big call but he has the ability and is mad enough to take it on,is it paddle able?that would be some hardcore charging
Even boogers have had unsuccessful attempts but hardy did it booging
Hardy yes he'd have a good go.
Laurie Towner would and enjoy it !
I'm sure Laurie knows where it is . As far as I know he hasn't been sighted scoping it from land , let alone sea . You would need someone that was a natural footed slab backdooring specialist that also could paddle like Jaime Mitchell .
Laurie towner would if it was possible . The doors open for anyone to try so cut the talk is cheap ! Lozza has towed it if you werent aware
Apologies Laurie . I missed watching that session .
I was in no way dissing Lauries cred , best paddle wave I've seen at Shippies still probably has his name next to it .
I still stand by my comment that it would need to be someone like Crossy who's had waves like Box at his disposal since he was gremmy , then and now has an intimate knowledge of the wave and the swells that could be rideable . You know yourself caml , if your raising the bar you need to really study and know your prey like the back of your hand .
No discredit to lozza but the waves marti para paddles at shippies are far beyond wat the first door busters did . A few of the stern hardcores have been raising the bar recently and paddling into what was previously the tow realm . I dont think cris x would waste his time .will ask him ...
Cmon mate , I was just trying to pump up his tyres after I unknowingly discredited him .
Found the footage of him at his first go at the right . Pretty impressive .
