Last Tuesday at Shippies - video

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

Mikey Brennan covers his Shippies session from all angles: land, water, and mouth! Regarding the drop-in, Mikey had this to say: "It was in no way a personal sabotage. It was super inconsistent and old mate had had a fair run and I felt like it was time for someone else - me! - to get a wave. I was the only local out there and it just happened super quick."

Filmed by Mikey, Dave Otto, and Tim Bonython.

Bad Bad drop in considering the type of wave involved I personally don't
find it acceptable looks to me as you got more than your fair share of waves.
I guess you cant accept the fact that there are better surfers and can make it
from far deeper than you.

saltman Friday, 17 Apr 2015 at 08:38 am new

Agree with above
Brennan had 5 set waves before the drop in, the guy looked like making it
Dog act - related to Dingo??

And if he copped a board to the back of the head or old mate was hurt would he be so flippant?

Cock!

It does look pretty bad don't it...
I think we all know what it feels like to be dropped in on.
"treat others the way you like to be treated.." Mikey must like to be dropped in on?

"it was in no way a personal sabotage". pretty much exactly what it was big fella. perhaps a quick chat beforehand would have avoided that situation. if you were indeed the only local fella out there, im sure 85-95% of blokes would take the constructive criticism on board. if there was the aforementioned chat and the situation still arose, then i dont view it as badly.

Where does he live?
On the bluff?

Maybe Swellnet can run a monthly Dingo award contest.
For video of the most entitled prick like behavior in the water

This months leader is that bloke living in his tent at Shipsterns - M Brennan

End of the year place all 12 videos up for voting of the Golden Dingo

Excellent idea Salty. Maybe that trophy could have a little cock poking out of the Dingo's forehead.......

Who ever Micky Brennan is I guess he now knows that some waves should be
edited out. What a dog.

The bloke bogged a rail to start off with, pretty much fell over the step, after seeing he was not gonna make it, began to go right;).....?
Just another wave, move on I thunk:)

Are you joking? Both paddled at the same time with Mikey looking back, pretty standard for Mikey, thinks he runs the joint, just another ageing tassie surfer thinking he's gonna make it pro

Cmon welly, we both know that's not true mate..

Yeah I was joking GF;)
Pretty blatant ride, anyways good little vid;)

Tabby10 Sunday, 19 Apr 2015 at 05:42 am new

What a cock, he had his fair share too

marbles Sunday, 19 Apr 2015 at 11:54 am new

It was fairly blatant, which is a worry. More worrying is that the discussion amongst the Tassie boys seems to be about where the bloke was from rather than what Brennan did. Confusing stupidity with localism I think.

Spot on marbles.

haha, a local at Shippies. i'm envious. tip: put the cameras down and stop promoting 'your' wave.

what i'd like to have seen is the drop-ee hoist an elbow and clock the drop-er in the ribs/head (not really.. but things do happen 'super quick', right?).

how about we make that a thing? don't avoid collisions, elbow to choke hold - turn surfing into some UFC/Pro Wrestling bloodsport (joking, it would suck).

seeing this stuff gets me pretty riled.. the amount of times i've straightened out when i get dropped in on.. meanwhile, i miss good waves cause i'm not prepared to gamble with the fella on my inside making it into the wave.. sometimes they don't.. wave goes on riderless but i haven't dropped in.

this fella admits to dropping in intentionally(?) cause he doesn't like to share. a 10 year old's name and an attitude to match.

If its true that the fella was overdoing it and hogging the lineup, then i can see his point. but if its a bit of a grey area then best not to drop in and put two people at risk. If you were there on the day you could make a proper judgement if its a fair burn or not.

Yeah a very deliberate and dangerous drop-in. A few years ago these blokes were the bane of my existence. Any good swell they would turn up like heroes, cameras and jet skis and entourage.. we called them Team Hollywood. I think they called themselves Team Hollywood. All of them trying to have a crack at making a life from surfing, the pressure to get shots etc... It made it a hard time to get waves on the good days. I don't care if you can surf deeper - if it is my set wave to poo stance 2 meters in front of the tube then you can just sit back, wait your turn and enjoy the show. Or sit down the line and hope I fall off like every other bastard does.

It must be hard for the ones that didn't make it though - to have some of your mates in your surfing group turn it into their life and their job... Just look at Stu Gibson. Started off taking pretty average Shippies photos and now is one of the best photogs in the business in my opinion. I reckon we have a few more years of desperate drop-ins before the cameras are turned off and we can go back to surfing in peace.

Mikeys been surfing shippies for over a decade hes one of the best surfers out there, doesnt matter if its 6ft or 20ft. His life has revolved around surfing the stern since he was in his teens. Hes a really nice humble guy but when hes in the water especially at his local big wave spot he froths out!! This day was borderline on and look how good he surfed it, FREAK!!!!! Ok he dropped in pretty bad once on a 6 footer, its not like hes dropping in on everyone and he also said sorry. It gets frustrating when blow-ins paddle deeper and also pullback then expect to be on the next wave. I can give some advice to non-locals chill out there If you do your time youll get a bomb! And dont rock up with a whole pack and start hassling. Theres a group of local boogies, surfers and photogs that have put there heart and soul into shippies, surfing it in all conditions. RESPECT THEM!!
