Rock to Rock Paddle/Surf/Walk event at Currumbin
(Burleigh 03/07/15) - On Sunday 12th July everyone is invited to join in the inaugural Rock to Rock Paddle/Surf/Walk at Currumbin. The Rock to Rock which is not a race but a great opportunity for the commnity to support the Gold Coast World Surfing Reserve proposal. This is a free event and people can choose their own mode of transport.
There will be a paddle register at 7am at Elephant Rock (next to Vikings Surf Club), Currumbin. The paddlers will then head north returning to Currumbin Beachfront just south of the Alley Rock. The walkers will commence once the paddlers are in the water and follow parallel from the shoreline.
Cheyne Horan has offered to lead the paddlers out, and Gold Coast Ironwoman Champion Courtney Hancock will bring the paddlers home from Elephant Rock to the Southside of Currumbin Alley Rock.
The forecast for Sunday 12th July forecast is looking favourable for the paddle with a manageable one metre southeast swell, light southerly winds and ideal tides. We would encourage everyone to be part of a very special day whether you paddle or walk in support of a great Gold Coast initiative that carries World Status.
The Gold Coast World Surfing Reserve proposal is about recognition and celebration of the history, culture, champions and iconic Gold Coast point breaks. It is an upgrade of the existing National Surf Reserves from Burleigh to Snapper Rocks. The proposal does not seek to create another layer of bureaucracy, restrict, hinder, or obstruct. This is for all beach users and the wider Gold Coast community to enjoy and be proud of as a World Surfing Reserve destination.
The GCWSR has the support from the Queensland State Government, World Surf League, QLD State Lifesaving Association, Surfing Queensland, Gold Coast Waterways Authority, Gold Coast Boardriding Clubs and many other organizations.
