Cold Clouds - video

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

Early this month, Benny Howard and Zane Wilson (behind the lens) flew out to the land of Tasmania. They were on a mission to explore the coastline and hunt for waves to ride and capture. Cold Clouds is a short film that documents their two week trip down south, highlighting the cold environments and long treks to some breaks, searching for waves.

Good surfing and music. Just remember the surf isn't like that all the time down here. You'll do a lot of miles to catch some spots on just the right conditions for a few hours and then have to look elsewhere for waves. And there are plenty of surfers around when the points start working, just like the rest of Oz. I must admit there is generally a better attitude down here though with most surfers friendly and helpful to those with good manners. Let's keep it that way!

Well said Spencie. I intend to settle down in Tassie in the near future and spend the rest of my life away from the Mainland. It is an environment I dream for and a the quiet forests and as you say some empty surfs will be perfect for me. My thoroughbred horse and three Basenjis.

Well said Spencie - that said it doesn't look like our intrepid adventurers managed to get off the gravel much at all in their amazing exploratory search........ takes a significant amount of time, travel and local knowledge to find waves downunder, downunder and the crowds at most local and well known, accessible waves are invariably thick in the water and hungry for surf....don't be sucked in and don't think you're going to find your surfing nirvana unless you're prepared to put in the weeks, months and years......

Takes me back 20+ years when I was gifted with living on King Island and surfing with Wire and the rest of King Island crew.

yeah but did u notice when he went for a wave there wasnt two hundred angry tattoed warriors trying to drop in on him? solitude!

wellymon Sunday, 26 Jul 2015 at 07:31 pm new

x2

Solitude at the waves in that film????? Now that's simply deluded - they are all commonly surfed breaks.......AND if you head to any of the real quality waves when they're on, such as the points and a couple of others,......we're talking BIG crowds with every surfcraft ever designed in use..........it's not the 80's over there folks, that's for sure.
