So it would make it onto the news and breakfast shows worldwide, chopes is old hat now and unless someone gets a severe beating it doesn't rate, Those guys get pad for how much exposure they get.
I would bet Derek Hynd would not have gone out at Jeffreys if it was a normal day and just a normal bloke not Mick Fanning that got attacked, he only went out cause the whole of the surfing world was watching.
Publicity mate that's why.
I don't reckon mate. He waited an hour and there was a few other blokes in the water too. Aside from that, I've surfed with Hynd a few times and though a bit of an oddball I don't think he is doing much for attention.
Well if you listen to most of the media he was alone, I sorta thought that that would not be the case.
I've had quite a few surfs with him also and had a run in with a shark at supers with him, it's just the last conversation with him about surfing some sharky places he wanted nothing to do with it, you may be right though. He's a really nice bloke not that oddball, just likes having fun, but he loves manipulating the media:-))
Bottom line is they are surfers who just want to go surfing so to get a higher profile in this look at me world, the higher the profile the more doors open for them.

I suppose when you've ridden so many heavy barrels like JOB has in his short life time the natural progression is then to do it whilst set on fire, up the ante so to speak. Pretty weird stunt..........sick wave tho.....

The best 'stunt' in this clip was doing a boneless off the jet ski straight into the wave with out a tow rope. That was sick.
