Robbie Maddison's "Pipe Dream"

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

For nearly two years Robbie has been focused on making surfing on his motorbike a reality. From his helmet to motocross boots, Maddo was dressed for FMX when he took his dirt bike into the unchartered saltwater terrain of the Pacific Ocean.

Wow....good on him for "chasing his dream"......it looks like jet skiing but, didn't know this was possible, way shitter.

Coops70 Monday, 3 Aug 2015 at 07:23 am new

That would be my luck, surfing chopes at a manageable level and get dropped in on by a bloke on a moto cross bike! Did not think he would have made that last section though, would have been interesting getting thumped with a helmet and boots on!

Pussy should of pulled in

spaceman Monday, 3 Aug 2015 at 08:11 am new

Ahhhh……..the serenity!

uncle_leroy Monday, 3 Aug 2015 at 08:16 am new

only about 100m to deep!
I sense a part 2 is already on tape, power banding into a tube maybe, you wouldn't just end it with a close out straight hander, gotta be a tube coming up
would be good fun on big sand flats and then skip across to the next flat
and skip ferry line at nth straddie
I'm glad this doesn't work in reverse, surfers/surfboards taking on every other day activities

davetherave Monday, 3 Aug 2015 at 08:37 am new

c'mon robbie, next time go behind the rock at snapper. defy convention.

thermalben Monday, 3 Aug 2015 at 09:02 am new

I agree Uncle Leroy - there's gotta be a part 2. The infrastructure required to get this to happen would have been too great to result in a quick promo clip like this.

Hopefully he'll launch a massive backflip of the west bowl.

fitzroy-21 Monday, 3 Aug 2015 at 09:30 am new

I reccon you'll be fucked if you come off.........anywhere in the water.

Piss funny though.

radiationrules Monday, 3 Aug 2015 at 09:55 am new

what a nightmare - can u imagine the inspiration he has created? I can foresee the stinky, loud, dangerous line-ups, complete with motor-bike debris on the ocean floor. I can't believe he is allowed to even go on the ocean like that - I hope a law is passed against it. Let alone how does this sit with the focus from XXL surfers moving away from tow-assisted jet propolsion towards paddle-in - human strength and the skill that requires?

Chris White Monday, 3 Aug 2015 at 10:05 am new

Settle down bud it's a stunt not a new sport.

winkie Monday, 3 Aug 2015 at 10:29 am new

Has he got a leg rope?

stanfrance Monday, 3 Aug 2015 at 11:06 am new

Wowee...so radical man. I loved the aerial imagery of that perfect tropical reef with a motorbike ripping over the top of it....so beautiful, just like paradise.

southey Monday, 3 Aug 2015 at 12:20 pm new

My tip is he got horribly ragged dolled on that last one . And that was the end of it .

The possibilities are endless , just think of all those dry slabs out there . No water no problem , just ride over that dry section in 10ft tube ....

I really hope this doesn't become a reality .
Although if anyone knows anyone at Redbull , Ben can you please give them my details . I can up that shit . Jesus anyone !?.

C'mon lads (at drive.com.au), it ain't twenty feet. Not even on the face. Most intermediate surfers would have happily paddled into the wave he rode.

wellymon Monday, 3 Aug 2015 at 02:36 pm new

Watercooled..!

t-diddy Monday, 3 Aug 2015 at 03:01 pm new

congrats Robbie! You are a fucking knob. I'm sure it wasn't intended but you can sense the annoyance of the locals engaged in their relaxing activity of choice (eg, paddling) when the internal combustion mosquito comes buzzing by. Even made it inland to scare some lizards!

noshow Monday, 3 Aug 2015 at 04:11 pm new

That awesome video has inspired me to put on my springsuit and paddle my shortboard down some moderately-sized dirt jumps at the local BMX track.

blow-in-9999 Monday, 3 Aug 2015 at 09:39 pm new

Does this count as a boat? Can I take it out to Snapper this weekend?

Eugene Green Tuesday, 4 Aug 2015 at 12:40 am new

Hey Stu, you said this was a "stand up" surfing website!?

Word on the grapevine is Dean Morrison has one of these on order ready for the next
4 foot day at Kirra. He grew up RIGHT THERE so he can do whatever he wants oright cunts!

Lucre Tuesday, 4 Aug 2015 at 07:23 pm new

How about u take your dirt bike and Jamie O and fuk off

penmister Tuesday, 4 Aug 2015 at 07:38 pm new

Its a little weird.....

rh-taxi Wednesday, 5 Aug 2015 at 05:05 am new

WTF, get back on land where you belong Robbie, thats an abomination, remember when everyone used to function perfectly well without energy drinks, now you see school kids drinking the shit so they can handle their 10 minute walk to school..

clif Wednesday, 5 Aug 2015 at 07:02 pm new

Read an interview on VICE where he says he nearly died doing this stunt.

wingnut2443 Wednesday, 5 Aug 2015 at 07:53 pm new

Fuck. The noise and smell from that thing buzzing through the line up - I'd be hoping he fucking coped a flogging, but then, the oil from the engine on the bottom of the ocean would create a nice fucking mess in that pristine crystal clear water.

DC Shoes - grow a fucking sense of decency. No need for this shit!

Swellnet, shame on you for promoting this crap.

wellymon Wednesday, 5 Aug 2015 at 09:36 pm new

The majority of comments so far are so negative and typical of small minded surfers who think they are the most elite sportsman/person on this planet. Ohh my dear, how sad.

Give the guy some respect, have you negative bunch of surfee bums tried this or similar...? I'm pretty sure you haven't at all, ever...! It probably takes more skill than what you have eh.....! Think about it.

The greatest comment , "as the possibilities are endless , just think of all those dry slabs out there . No water no problem , just ride over that dry section in 10ft tube ...."
That probability could be and is a positive outlook.

I do feel for small minded people, as creations like this that happen are an advancement in technology which is similar in progressing with design to the surf board, space shuttle, electric vibrator, nutri bullet, IS equipment in hazardous areas, snow boards, skate boards, kite surfers, jet skiis etc etc.
Stop jumping up and down as this will never happen at your local, but it might happen somewhere really interesting.
Respect;)

Think this will be JOB's next surfing adventure...step offs at the 'Poo. I'd like to see him tow but I reckon the beach start on the rope might be a bit rough on the shoulders.
