It was fine timing for the first real swell of the season at Nazare - October 31st, Halloween. Since becoming the most likely place to break XXL records, Naz has become home base for many big wave surfers. No less than 18 tow teams motored about during this swell though the usual crew got the bombs.
Aside from the surfing it was the same heart-tugging music that scores every Nazare clip, though the editor had ditched strings for synth. Now that's progess.

Like it better than strings but not as much as guitar. So call it a work in progress.
It looks like the challenge is to create more mobile tow boards that can carve that huge face. My first impression is that they could do with a bit more length.
They need one of Laird's hoverboards. Strap in, fly above the chop, no friction, go faaaaaaast.

Yeah I am sick to death of tow in surfing on Big waves the boards they ride seem to be frozen in time and they just bounce and point the board in one direction and head for the shoulder. The paddle in guy was more interesting and they cut the wave short???? give me my Outer Island 12ft Balsa pin nose pintail Gungho Gun and I will paddle into the lefts a bit away from the point.

err ... what was the point of this vid, apart form wasting my time - it looks like it was made as tourism promo. EG: average screen time for each ride 3 to 4 seconds.
Agreed. We all want to see the takeoff, we all want to see whether they make it. After a wipeout we all want to see if they make it up before the next wave ploughs through while the ski hovers around trying to decide whether to run the gauntlet.
Sure, not all the waves hold that drama from start to finish, but there's no shortage of breathless moments outside of those 2-second highlights. Including those aspects give the waves a narrative arc that enhances those peak moments when they do happen.
