Cold Outside: surfing winter storm Jonas - video

Ben Matson (thermalben)
Swellnet Dispatch

Shane Burn, Dylan Kowalski, and Evan Barton make the journey North to the Outer Banks, a barrier island off North Carolina. After stumbling across an abandoned peak along the stretch of Highway 12, the men suited up for the frigid session. As winter storm Jonas rolled through the East Coast, the men traded off on sets packing barrel for barrel. Filmed and edited by Jacob Laham of Brown Bear Visuals.

Winter - thick and chunky. Reminds me of all the winter surfs I had in New Plymouth over in Enzed. Snow and ice melting on Mt Egmont and running down the creeks to the countless surf breaks on the coast. Gaylords in fluoro boardies need not apply.

Hwy 12 is abandoned, of course it is, NO tourists in sight that time of year.
Great waves, way better than when I was there in Feb 2008.
