Swellnet Dispatch

When the swell is thirty foot and the wind is blowing stiff offshore, there's a thousand ways things can go wrong at Peahi. Here's five minutes worth of evidence.

Ok gotcha this one

caml Saturday, 30 Jan 2016 at 01:38 pm new

Ok I see this new one sharkman , this is carnage & its another clip showing wipeouts galore . But it is an angle & its not showing the waves that were good or well ridden and to think that this shows that no one made a wave & thats it end of story is foolish . The media can really be biased to the truth im sorry to inform you. Theres amazing rides being displayed on instagram from this day

sharkman Saturday, 30 Jan 2016 at 01:43 pm new

why would the media be biased?? which instagrams?

caml Saturday, 30 Jan 2016 at 03:03 pm new

Didnt you know that forms of media can give certain impressions that can corrupt the truth .
ie you saying that nobody made a wave - is the result of this clip
. Whereas from another perspective there was amazing rides that particular arvo .
I have already named a bunch of surfers who got incredible rides that are easily found on instagram search page

This was a clip just showing wipe outs though I thought that was obvious. There was plenty of footage around showing guys who made it which was truly fucking amazing in itself as this must have been the biggest attempted caml?

caml Sunday, 31 Jan 2016 at 12:35 am new

My comment was actually due to the discussion on the ski & rope thread that then crossed over to have a look at these wipeouts then we went back to the ski/rope thread . I was talking about how there was good ones ridden& made & not all wipeouts . Coops I think this swell had a bigger period but not taller so it made it harder than ever to make drops

'No point me going out there, I'd just charge too hard... aaaayyeeee!!!'

'I don't have to surf it, because I learned how to do it easily by listening to some old guys by the campfire...'

Although it looks kinda weird... bullshit even, that's just some lines I learned from the swillnuts... so that's not bullshit...

uplift Saturday, 30 Jan 2016 at 10:32 pm new

Uplift you are seriously fucked up .... Blax doesn't even get an honorary mention when you start watching /commenting on things like this . Unless you were paddling the bombie before anyone else , then I'm tipping I've had way more experience than you in heavy water ... Stick to your " wash throughs mate .... Lemon next to the pie , anyone remember that call .... Last week .

On Beach Grit
https://beachgrit.com/2016/01/dave-wassel-pipe-is-ninety-nine-feet/

Dave Wassel said about this Pea'hi swell:-
"It’s super crowded, and if you look at the interval yesterday, it wasn’t approachable. All the people that I talked to, the best five guys at Pe’ahi, all of them said it was a tow day. It wasn’t a wind issue, Mother Nature was just straight up pissed off. It wasn’t bigger than the last swell, just the interval was long and the waves were moving way too fast. Look at all the wipeouts that went down. I mean, how many waves were successfully ridden yesterday? Three? Four?
It’s horrifying, I don’t know if people know what they’re getting themselves into."

Great evidence there wally good post thanks

sharkman Sunday, 31 Jan 2016 at 12:38 pm new

its nice to read that even the wassel knows that there is a limit , and it was Thursday , because the if the guys I spoke to said dorian /healey/Johnson/walsh , paddled out and had a look and paddled in , no one died to prove a point , so maybe towin and wiping out in the barrel is better than skipping down the face , dislocating , rib breaking and or winded , a recipe for disaster , so next level tow ?

NickT Sunday, 31 Jan 2016 at 01:50 pm new

Amazing wipe out reel. The amount of pressure from all that water driving, twisting and turning the surfers must be mind bending, I bet they would practice going to their happy place multiple times a day in preparation for a day like this. Those inflatable vests that they wear are a great invention, it must give the surfers allot more confidence knowing that they can rise to the surface without using as much energy.

Lanky Dean Sunday, 31 Jan 2016 at 03:30 pm new

So did anyone tow then?

caml Sunday, 31 Jan 2016 at 04:10 pm new

Yes I saw a woman was toed at jaws . I guess other breaks may have been ldean , quite likely but theres no clips yet

goofyfoot Sunday, 31 Jan 2016 at 06:17 pm new

Why doesn't laird paddle?

penmister Sunday, 31 Jan 2016 at 06:36 pm new

Laird gets towed in by helicopters...hes a freak of the ocean..
