Mark Healey: Free To Move - video

"I'm not crazy. I didn't just fly out of the womb and surf 70-foot waves; it was a process." - Mark Healey

This short doco might be spruiking underwear but it's one of the better pieces of content marketing we've seen lately. Mark Healey explains how he became comfortable in waves tipping ten times overhead.

Why does he bath in ice water ? Does this prepare him for a mavericks wipe out with wetsuit blowing open or sorts ?

Craig Wednesday, 24 Feb 2016 at 12:04 pm new

Probably the mental challenge of pushing past the cold, and also maybe some breathing technique practice under extreme conditions.

I think it's to try and shrink his massive balls so he can fit into his boardies

Think it's 'cos cold water sets off the Mammalian Reflex?

I've heard something about cold water baths and recovery but seriously, I'm a massive unit and I strongly recommend a well populated Jacuzzi as the solution to most problems

Cold water is an excellent test for meditation - coming back to what Healey says about needing to push past physical and mental discomfort. Some people swear by it. Check out Wim Hof and his feats of cold water tolerance, and meditation: "The Man Who Uses Meditation To Conquer Extreme Cold"

I'm not sure Cam would have access to a large supply of water let alone Ice .
Perhaps just the breakdance / desert boogaloo then . lol

That ice dip would kill me . Those stretches would work , far more advanced than ive seen , but no im not that keen . but good on him this clip really confirms how crazy a big wave surfer etc diver etc he is , hes been gnarly since he started as a kid on the north Shore charging pipe etc . Still crazy and he denies it !

I like interviews with Mark Healey. He is smart and articulate. He has a very precise mind with quite an incisive sense of humour.
But when I saw this photo of him with a Great White, it reinforced to me that he is just not normal folks.
