Asher Pacey // Pieces Astray - video

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

Asher Pacey hooks up with long time filmer Matt Kleiner in Kleiner's old stamping ground of California. As usual, Matt gets the unique shots while Asher draws the unconventional lines.

My kind of video. Nice waves and awesome psych music with great cinematography.

Thought the title was an anagram for a sec, but it's not.

But it could be.

'Spaciest Year'

Touche....just not an anagram of asher pacey.
It's an anagram with some pieces astray maybe?

*yuck, yuck*

Sorry, Stu.

Just love, love, love watching this guy surf. Saw him tube riding at Snapper in the flesh about a month ago on his twin and it was something to behold. Absolutely schooling the worlds best

Why don't I see many people riding twin-fins, at least in small surf? They look super fun, and loose. Is it just too hard?

Basil got me a new one similar to the more normal looking one Asher rides.I used to ride them back in the day when the switch from single fins happened and have always had a soft spot for them. Awesome small way board up to 3 foot. Can go anywhere on the wave without trying with a ton of speed. Love it...and here comes the but...once it gets a bit gnarly they are a handful for a mere mortal like me. The acceleration off the bat is huge and changes of direction happen in a nano second and don't even think of going backhand unless you really nurse your turns. Once it gets solid I switch to a thruster which seems tame by comparison. You don't see many vids of Asher going left.

Add a small trailer fin and box with a little adjustment for those gnarlier waves...makes moves more controllable.

memlasurf Wednesday, 23 Mar 2016 at 02:32 pm new

Tried that Udo but it seemed to emasculate it, like a wannabe thruster. Thought I might as well just surf the thruster which I now do.

Check out Joel Tudor in One Cal Day ... he rips on one.

I also have one and love it, can only agree about the speed, super fun

Thanks memlasurf. you've certainly pricked my curiosity. It sounds anything but dull, which on a small day could be just the trick. Not too many lefts around me and I'm not a big fan of backhand anyway! I might investigate a purchase. Any pointers on a board I could look at?

memlasurf Wednesday, 23 Mar 2016 at 03:11 pm new

Personally I would stay away from the really fishy versions and go for something like this. It is a reasonably simple shape and if you don't get a DHD your local shaper will be able to knock you up something very similar.https://dhdsurf.com/surfboards/twin-fin/
My son couldn't relate to it as he had never surfed them before and I suppose they are quite different to a thruster, however if you persevere on small waves you can have a ball. Mine is a 5'6" which is about my height.

Yep I'm not a fish fan at all so happy to steer clear. I will check it out the dhd. Thanks heaps.

By a very strange coincidence, checking out that link, I saw Asher up close in the the video, and I reckon he was in the water charging when I had a paddle earlier today....didn't see if he was on the twinny or not though!

Got to hand it to Asher, he's got the twinny working really nice! Nice wee clip the waves look so fun...
