Papatowai - video

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

Wild Kiwi action from the south end of the South Island. Yeah, the footage is raw - a tad shaky with intermittent focus. But don't complain, allow the gritty realism to transport you there, standing high on a wind-swept bluff looking down upon a bunch of rubbered-up madmen going at it under paddle power, the drubbings as plentiful as the conquests.

Good times.

Nice track too.

udo Thursday, 21 Apr 2016 at 12:51 pm new

Great vid.....just a couple of more paddles would have save them from those beatings.

Great advice juan & udo , but I think they know what they're doing in their 7ml wettys & its they're local break

BenjaminButtoned Thursday, 21 Apr 2016 at 02:01 pm new

Perhaps jaun and udo have been talking to privy old guys with secret information, and, don't even need to surf there to be experts at surfing there? Or perhaps they surfed there, without surfing there, before they surfed there. A few years ago when they were older perhaps? Confusing perhaps, but highly possible.

I might be being a bit sharkophobic(?) but what's that at 2.34? looks like a shark

Craig Thursday, 21 Apr 2016 at 03:00 pm new

Coming off a boil, looks like maybe kelp?

Well spotted! You can see similar thing at 3:19, although i dont think its a shark.

Also i wouldn't of said they are overgunned at all, if anything a bit more board would of helped on a few of them i reckon.
Sick little vid.

i once pretended to be a footie-jersey wearing surfer from dunedin in a forum raid a few years back, so i'm the probably the most qualified to give advice and judge the surfing in this case.
first up, nope, that's not a shark. no sharks in dunedin. the moas ate them all years ago
second up, those aren't locals...must be blow-ins from the north island. that'll explain the wetsuits. wimps!
anything else you want to now about dunedin just ask.

mick-free Thursday, 21 Apr 2016 at 03:46 pm new

Chook you will fluster the locals claiming Leroy and his mates are blow ins.

There's a lot of water moving around, cold heavy water.... 6'8" 7'0" I'd love to see it Jaun.
