The world's best wave? - video

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

It doesn't have consistency on its side, nor size, but there's few people who'd disagree that, when it's on, Skeleton Bay is the best wave in the world.

South African cameraman Chris Rogers is emphatic about its ranking at the top of the tree: "It's a surfers paradise!"

Hard to disagree after viewing this footage...

That burn at the very end was a shocker. Won't be long 'till it becomes common place like snapper.

Worthy of a dingo award that one

Better than Kelly's wave I reckon. Would be good to see some footage of average joe's surfing the place……..I imagine its trickier than looks

freeride76 Friday, 27 May 2016 at 11:57 am new

i've heard it's very difficult.....that was probably the most user-friendly footage I';ve seen.

Why does there have to be a "best" wave? There are a lot of good waves but they're all different. This is certainly in the conversation.

If you want a right, Rip Curl Search WCT in Mexico 2006 was close but shorter. That's still the most incredible contest waves I've seen. I don't know how often it gets like that though.

Yeah when it is solid looks a really tricky take off. Even the semi pros were struggling which leaves zero hope for me. Long way away for Dingo to turn up in the lineup.

How is it determined that it's "the worlds best wave". Stu have you surfed it to make that judgement for yourself? If so what other waves would you compare it against to determine its ranking?

fitzroy-21 Saturday, 28 May 2016 at 05:38 pm new

Pretty sure it is a question not a statement.

Yes I do.

For instance, I know the name of the video is 'The World's Best Wave', and I also know I didn't make the video.

Legrope Friday, 27 May 2016 at 09:15 pm new

Just watched it in the mirror. Sick! Better than Kelly's by a lot. That drop in needs a "chat" on the beach.

Pauanui Sunday, 29 May 2016 at 01:23 pm new

Tubes are awesome - but the expressiveness of linking a nice repetoire of turns together followed by a tube section is what I would classify as a classic - this wave does'nt seem to have many turning sections. Jeffries bay would be my pick - it has it all.
