I remember a similar even to this one in 1995 but the low was so slow moving that I think it petered out after about a week. Day after day of torrential rain and gale-force onshores. Up at Main Beach where I lived there were 4-5 metre straight drop offs from the fence line to the sand on the beach (or what was left of it).
I also remember the banks were stuffed for weeks and weeks afterwards. But it will recover- always does.
