As much as everyone bags Koby out for saying no lids, i kind of agree with him there are too many lids and many waves to ride them.I ride one too sometimes and was decent at it but the truth is its easier and lids have island, merries reefs, suck rock, middles, kp all the reefs of cronulla. Let the standups have cape i say. Island and south coast shits on the cape anyway.
Maybe im just getting old and interested in waves more like maldives but never had an interest in the cape. my friends did but theres better waves elesewhere.
That said i loved watching this turned off the fiji pro and watched carnage. Brilliant.
I kept Fiji on in the background too but when this was running i couldn't switch back.
Kinda like that perverse feeling people get when watching a car accident. You cringe and make all the appropriate noises but you just can't look away.
Great contest and big props to all the riders. You wouldn't catch me out there.
That bald at 18 you may as well live like there's no tomorrow. Well done Sir.
That highlight clip doesn't do the final justice at all. That was by far and away the single best surf contest final or heat I've ever seen - on the edge of the seat from the 45 minute mark. The commentators were carrying on with koby-worship after he got about 3 smokers in a row, then they switched the tow/paddle to Ryan hipwood and Russell b and they took it up a notch when there wasn't one to go to after what koby had done. It was full-on and made the pro tour comps look utterly predictable and rather ho-hum, especially a couple of patches where they were getting back to back waves in the pulses. More, please.
Best surfing/comp ever! Day 1 of the comp was sheer madness.
But I can't understand why no-one wore a helmet given the conditions - is it just bravado or coolness?
How lucky were those guys selected in Rds 3 & 4?
I watched day 1& 2 with horror. Jughead surfed like a man with a deathwish and I don't know how he survived. He was actually smiling before getting horribly wiped out at one point. Koby A seemed straight up insane and not just in relation to surfing and everyone else definitely had something loose upstairs. Dave Wassel was hilarious and said what everyone was thinking.

Cape Fear @ Shippies window has been called open. Some very interesting invitees in there. Shame Jugs not there but maybe he’s an alternate
