Serious, genuine question ... do you guys (i.e. swellnet) get paid to put these advertising / marketing clips up? Just curious in light of the discussion around surfstitch, because this is the type of revenue stream they would be looking to leverage.
Paid to put the content up, then maybe some spot advertising across the various sites, and then stock the products and sell them via their online store.
PS: Happy to have the conversation in private if you'd prefer not to discuss online.
No we don't (get specifically paid to publish videos). We run these clips because we like 'em, and think you guys will too.
We do have some surf industry advertisers who produce clips that we sometimes publish, but each video is assessed on its own merits.

None whatsoever.
It's branded content Wingnut, the concept has been around for a long time. I think the Michelin guide were the first, that began in 1900.
I posted this vid purely on the strength of the surfing and nothing else. In fact I had to Google Vertra 'cos I'd never heard of it.

I understand the concept. In light of recent articles and ensuing comments regarding surfstitch, I have started to question whether there is more revenue flowing for distribution of the surf based content than I understood.
In Ancient Rome, gladiators and gladiator schools would be owned by a variety of individuals. Events would be held to promote the owner's status and influence.
